"Mrs. William Smith, 61 of 909 Twelfth street, died at a local hospital on Wednesday afternoon following an illness of five months. She had been a resident of Rapid City for 27 years.
Martella R Knapp was born July 7, 1878 on a ranch near Jefferson SD, where she spent her girlhood.
She was married to William M Smith at Elk Point SD, on Oct 12, 1898. Soon after their marriage, the Smiths moved to a ranch east of Buffalo Gap. In the Spring of 1912 the family came to Rapid City.
Besides her widower she leaves two daughters; Mrs.Clyde Jones of Rapid City, Mrs.SD Holmes of Sioux Falls; a son Harold M Smith of Rapid City, and two sisters, Susie Dickerson and Alva Fouts both of Sioux City IA. All of the family except Mrs.Fouts are in Rapid City at present.
Funeral services have been set for 10am Friday at the Behren's Mortuary. Friends may visit the mortuary from 7 pm to 9 pm Thursday evening."
