Obadiah was a son of Joseph Hersey & Mary Reed.

He was married on 17 Apr 1777 at Bridgewater, Plymouth County, Massachusetts to Naomi Reed.

They had 9 children:

Obadiah was a lumberman and furnished the white oak planking for "Old Ironsides", the frigate U.S.S. Constitution. The trees were cut near his home in Northville, "east of there toward the edge of Bear Meadow". He took them to Hobart's Mill to be sawed into planks.

Obadiah served as a Private in Lt. Benjamin Bates' Company and marched on an Alarm from Abington, Massachusetts to Tiverton, Rhode Island on 30 Jul 1780. He served for 11 days and was discharged on 9 Aug 1780.

Obadiah was having dinner at the home of the Shaws at 499 Adams Street in Abington on 2 Aug 1811 and choked to death on a piece of meat.
