Obituary

On December 25, 1904, death claimed our beloved sister, Mrs. D.J. Bedell. Sister Bedell was 49 years and 9 days old, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Green, and was married to Rev. D.J. Bedell May 17, 1874; 7 children were born to them; 2 died in infancy, 5 are living, 1 son and 4 daughters, whom, with her husband, she left behind, but with the hope to meet again beyond the river. She was converted at the age of 15 years and began the labor of love for her Master that ended only at her death. The last 3 years of her life were spent at Hopewell, near Swan, Smith County, Texas, where she lived a valuable life and fulfilled the duties of a pastor's wife nobly and well. For 21 years her husband has served Hopewell Church, and as we have listened to his sermons and feasted on the teachings of God's Word as presented to us by him, we could not fail to know and appreciate the part of his wife in holding up his hands and sending the blessed Gospel wherever her husband preached. We feel sure that many a bright star in her crown will be the souls saved by the Gospel she preached through her husband. She was a zealous Christian Worker, and many the faint hearts cheered and brave by her kind words, and many unsaved brought to Christ by her prayers. As president of the Ladies' Aid Society, she carried her noble works on. Her resignation was accepted a few months ago only after she assured us that the sick needed her more than we. Wherever she knew there was suffering and sorrow, there she went, with her sunshine and flowers, to cheer and comfort with her tender ministries. She loved flowers and used them for God's glory. She found such pleasure in growing and caring for them, and her beautiful flower yard was one of her chief delights.
