Leonard Murphy died Wednesday, September 26, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. Aged 81, he was a retired farmer; a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and a native and lifelong resident of French Settlement.
Hollabaugh-Spindle Mortuary in Baton Rouge is in charge of arrangements. Services will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in French Settlement, with burial in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Norman J. Vicknair, Marvin P. Murphy, Donald S. Lambert, Jeffrey Lambert, J.C. Sanchez and Garney Gautreau.
Survivors include his wife, Rosa Brignac Murphy; four sons, Louis Murphy of Prairieville, and Rudolph, Guy and Leon Ray Murphy, all of French Settlement; two daughters, Mrs. O'Neil Lambert and Mrs. Alton Schexnayder, both of French Settlement; one brother, Elize Murphy; three half-sisters, Mrs. Maria Aydell of French Settlement, Mrs. Catherine Humble of New Orleans, and Mrs. Hymel Matherne of Baton Rouge; and two half-brothers, Otto and Ralph Murphy, both of French Settlement; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
