Daughter of parents who witnessed
the burning of Buffalo in 1813 from
their home on Vermont Hill, Township
of Holland. Mrs. Mandane Kent
Perry of East Aurora, observed her
98th birthday anniversary yesterday
in her home. She lives at 22
North Grove Street, and has resided
in the village since 1856.
Active and in good health, Mrs.
Perry celebrated her birthday with
an 80-mile automobile trip through
the Boston Hills and surrounding
country. Since July 11th Mrs. Perry
has been a great-great grandmother.
Her grandparents, Joseph and
Polly Kent, were pioneers who came
by oxcart over Indian trails from
New England, arriving in 1811 in
the Town of Holland, where they
built their home.

Oldest resident of East Aurora,
who lived there 82 years,
was ill three weeks

Funeral services will be held
tomorrow for Mrs. Mandane Perry,
98, oldest resident of East Aurora,
who died yesterday at her home,
22 North Grove Street. Mrs. Perry
had been ill three weeks.
Born July 28, 1840, Mrs. Perry had
lived in East Aurora for 82 years.
Until a few years ago, she kept
house for her brother, the late
Joseph C. Kent, Civil War veteran,
who died at 94 in December, 1937.

Descendant of Pioneers

The Kent family, of which Mrs.
Perry is a member, came from
Corinth, Vt., in 1811. Mrs. Perry
was born in Vermont Hill, Town of
Holland. Her grandfather, Joseph
Kent and family, made the journey
by ox-team. From Vermont Hill, the
family viewed the burning of
Buffalo by the British.
Mrs. Perry married Adin Perry, a
teacher, in East Aurora in 1859. Her
husband died in October, 1904. Two
were born to them, Mrs.
Robert Nye, of East Aurora, who
survives, and the late Mrs. Eva
Rodney.
Other survivors are Mrs. William
J. Bork and Wilbur A. Nye, grand-
daughter and grandson, both of
East Aurora; Clarence Odell, New
York, a grandson; also two great-
grandchildren, and one great-great-
grandchild, the latter of Havana,
Cuba.
She was a member of Baker
Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church
more than 70 years.
The Rev. Eugene J. Fleury, pastor,
will officiate at the services at the
home at 2 o'clock Monday.
Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery,
East Aurora.
