She was born in Rice on Oct. 7, 1911, to David Marion Loop and Fannie Charity Walker Loop. She graduated from Rice High School in 1929 and attended Baylor College for Women for one year. She married Roger F. "Tad" Bartlett Jr., a Rice native and her high-school classmate, in Dallas on Nov. 30, 1940. After living at a succession of Army bases during Tad's World War II service, they resided in Dallas from 1946 to 1968 and in Houston from 1968 until 1972, when they returned to Rice after Tad's retirement from Cooper-Bessemer Corporation.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her three sisters, Kellie Loop, Fay Heather, and Hazel Gallemore. In her immediate family she is survived by a son, Roger of Austin and his wife Susannah Mills; by a son, Jack of DeSoto and his wife Barbara Bartlett; and by two grandchildren, Chris Bartlett of DeSoto and Catherine Bartlett of Arlington.

At the time of her death she was a member of First Baptist Church of Rice. The family acknowledges with gratitude the love and care she received from church members and other friends and from her dedicated caregivers, Diane Stevens, Sheryl Rich, Eva Arender, and Angie Spann, who consistently went above and beyond normal duties to enrich and enhance her quality of life.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Corley Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at noon Thursday, Nov. 5, at Rice Cemetery with the Rev. Tommy Guthrie officiating, and will be followed by a reception at First Baptist Church, 201 S. Dallas St., Rice.
