His obituary in the Bennington Banner, March 25, 1996 reads: Ralph G. Quackenbush Jr., 76, a long time resident of Bennington died Sunday, March 24, Vermont Veterans Home following a long illness. Born in Bennington October 11, 1919, he was the son of the late Ralph G. Quackenbush Sr. and the former Matilda (Mary) Jensen. He received his education in Bennington and was a graduate of Bennington High School. Following high school he enlisted in the Navy serving during WW II. In earlier years he was employed at the Columbia Box Corporation in Walloomsac, New York and Ben Mont Paper Company in Bennington. He also drove a truck for Merrill Transport, Fairbands Express and Wyman's Oil Company. Mr Quackenbush was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose No. 1233 in Bennington and VFW in Plattsburg, New York. He was a life member of both the American Legion in Rouses Point, New York and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1861 in Bennington. He was a former member of the Bennington County Sheriffs Department and the Northeast Customs Patrol in Moers, New York and Presque, Maine. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. His family was his main interest. Survivors include two sons, Ralph G. Quackenbush III and Michael J. Quackenbush, both of Jacksonville, Florida; four daughters, Joan LeBlanc and Marie Surdam, both of Bennington, Patricia Vitenburgs of Wilton, New York and Susan Quackenbush of Adams, Massachusetts; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Amond Davis and Hilda Davis both of Bennington and Evelyn Hallams of Fairfield, Connecticut; a very close friend, Emily Dow of Bennington; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Hilda Quackenbush. The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Tuesday, March 26, at 11 AM. Burial will take place in the family lot in the Village Cemetery, Bennington, Vermont.
