Andrew Lewis Moore was the son of Benjamin B. Moore and Sarah (Randol) Moore. He was born on 28 January 1851 in Hardin County, Ohio (possibly in McDonald Township, as the family was living there in 1850). Andrew was the sixth child out of thirteen children. His birth information comes from the family bible (according to the Civil War pension file of his brother John Robinson Moore).

Andrew married Mary Josephine Sorden on 22 Feb 1874 in the Cloud County Courthouse in Kansas. Mary Josephine Sorden went by the name of Josephine, and Andrew went by the name of "Andy". Andy and Josephine had the following four children:

1. Benjamin Britton Moore (male)
2. James William Bruce Moore (male)
3. Tildon Orange Moore (male)
4. Dessie Moore (female)

The family lived in Clyde, Cloud, Kansas for many years before moving to Oklahoma.
