“Scott Sheets was a clerk at Caliente, Nev. For San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railway January 1906 to March 1908. He was Shop Timekeeper for the A.T. & S.F. Railway Coast Lines at Needles under W. P. Cheney, Master Mechanic, February 1909 to May 1911. He was transferred to Bakersfield as head Timekeeper for A.T. & S.F. Railway June 10, 1911 which position he held until July 4, 1917 when he resigned to enlist in the Marines.
He received training at Mare Island, Quantico, Virginia; stationed at Fort Crocket, Galveston, Texas from July 1917 to May 1918, where he was transferred to Machine Gun Company in the Marines. He went overseas May 1918. He took part in several engagements and was Killed in Action during the battle of the Argonne October 29, 1918. He served with the 23rd Company, 6 B.T.N. Machine Gun Company, U.S. Marines. He was cited three times for bravery. He was under W.S. Grandy at Bakersfield. By: Mrs. J. A. Donaldson, 1609 E Street, Bakersfield, California, April 30, 1919.”
