WILLIAM HENRY "BILL" (8 Jul 1860, Morgan, IL.- 24 Nov 1945, El Reno, Canadian County,OK, was a son of Andrew Jackson Johnson and Pheriba Jane Wyatt. He married his
sister-in-law, Lillian Bell Bradley (5 Sept 1879, Macoupin Co. IL - 12 Jan 1972, El Reno), 29 Oct 1894, Guthrie, Canadian, OK. At one time, Bill was superintendent of the Canadian County Poor Farm. An article in the El Reno American, Thurs., July 10, 1930 headline read:

'W. H. JOHNSON IS SUCCESSOR OF MERVELDT, Poor Farm Superintendent Took Post as Commissioner Monday'.

Bill was county commissioner of Canadian County, third district, from 1903 to 1907. Then he was elected state senator in the 14th senatorial district to the
new State's first legislature. He was again appointed county commissioner in 1930.

The first Oklahoma legislature met in Guthrie, Monday, 2 Dec 1907, and Guthrie was made the state capitol. However, in 1910, the Legislature voted to move the seat of government to Oklahoma City. To avoid conflict, Oklahoma City leaders swiftly and secretively spirited the state seal out of Guthrie. Bill was one of those men who, under cover of night, hid the seal in a horse-drawn wagon and
fled with it to Oklahoma City.
