Clarence Irvin "Van" VanBeber, age 80, of Bonner Springs, Kansas, went home to be with the Lord on October 30, 2009, at the Olathe Medical Center. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Victory Assembly of God in Bonner Springs with burial to follow in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kansas City, KS. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home. Memorial Contributions can be made to either Victory Assembly of God or the Bonner Springs United Methodist Church both in care of the Funeral Home.
Irvin was born on July 8, 1929, the oldest of six children to Pat and Fannie (Hamblen) VanBeber in Clear Fork, OK. He grew up and graduated High School in Greeley, Co. and moved to Kansas City, KS, soon after. He married Jean (Crabb) in 1951 and to this union three daughters were born and she preceded him in death in 1999. He retired from the Kansas City Star where he had been a Union Official in the Printers Union. He had been a member at Victoria Tabernacle in Kansas City, KS. In 2002 he married Joanne Leininger and moved to Bonner Springs and together they attended both the Bonner Springs United Methodist Church and Victory Assembly of God. His faith and family was very important to him. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, wood carving, and was presently restoring a 1929 Model A Ford along with his son-in-law Bob.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Jean, his daughter Roxanne Finlay in 2001, brothers Vernon and Roy VanBeber and one sister Donna Grove.
Survivors include his wife Joanne VanBeber of the home; two daughters Debby Marmon and husband Bob and Sue Russell and husband David all of Bonner Springs; son-in-law Phil Finlay of Topeka, KS; two sisters Mildred Ballard of Sun City Center, FL, and Marilyn Smith and husband Keith of Johnstown, CO; step daughter Susan Leininger of Bonner Springs; 11 grandchildren Chad Marmon (Melissa), Brett Marmon (Jen), Aaron Marmon (Heather), Lara Hadley (Johnny), Lindsay Smith (Chad), Kris and Kurt Russell, Andrew, Jeff and Vanessa Finlay, Emma Stucki; 9 great grandchildren Hayden, Hudson, Avery, Asher, Ellie, Mason, Jase, Jade and Lincoln; as well as numerous friends and extended family.
