Graveside services will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2009 at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis for Michael S. Backer, age 61, of Otsego who died Thursday at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center, St. Cloud.
Michael was born Oct. 14, 1947 in Winter Haven, FL to Dudley & Ann (Staid) Backer. He married Dawn Lynn Aker on April 4, 1987 at Sanibel, FL. They lived in Florida prior to moving to Minneapolis in 2005. He worked as a salesman for Home Depot in Elk River, retiring in 2008. Michael was a Coast Guard Veteran of the Vietnam Era. He was a member of Elk River American Legion Post 112. Michael enjoyed metal detecting.
Survivors include his wife, Dawn of Otsego; step daughter, Felicia Amundsen of Eagan; brothers and sister, Robert of Minneapolis, Carleen Temple of Woodbridge, VA, and John of Winter Haven, FL.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents.
Arrangements were handled by Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Homes.
