Son of Colonel Joseph Vance and occupied the Vance homestead from which his father had moved to Cross Creek Village in 1830. William Vance served in the War of 1812 and also the Legislature of Pennsylvania in 1816 to 1817. He held many offices of honor, trust and profit.
