LtJG E.O. Phillips of Shreveport, Louisiana died when his plane crashed in a heavy fog on top of Rich Mountain in the Ouachita National Forest 45 miles southwest of Fort Smith, Arkansas near Page, Oklahoma. Lt. Phillips was principal of Alpine High School for several years, resigning in 1941 to accept a navy commission as an instructor. He was chief of the education and training section of the Shreveport Veteran's Administration center at the time of his death. He entered the VA service soon after receiving his discharge from the service in 1946. Survived by his wife; his mother - Mrs. J.R. Phillips; four sisters.
