The funeral of Mrs. Paul Blackstone (Edla) was Monday at 2 p.m., at the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Blackstone died in a Lincoln hospital last Friday at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 15 days.
Edla Marie Hedlund Blackstone was born to Carl Hedlund and Brita Maria Anderson Sept. 5, 1906, near Cadillac, Mich.
After finishing her education in the local schools she attended Lansing Business University in Lansing, Mich. She worked as a private secretary in that city for a number of years. While employed she took courses in religious education and earned a bachelor's degree in that subject. She was engaged in full time Christian work for a number of years under the auspices of the Christian Business and Professional Organization of America. While engaged in this work, she traveled throughout the eastern half of the United States and as far west as South Dakota and Kansas.
While in Kansas she met and married Paul Blackstone, a local farmer and rancher, on May 22, 1954, at the Olive Hill Church. In 1975 they retired and moved to Superior.
Mrs. Blackstone was an active member of the United Methodist Church. She also wrote the inspirational column in the Jewell County Record for many years, using the pen name of Millicent. Mrs. Blackstone also composed more than 6,000 poems.
Preceding her in death were her parents and four brothers, Einer, Herbert, Henning and Paul Hedlund.
Survivors are her husband, Paul; two brothers, Elmer Hedlund of Florida and Carl Hedlund, Grand Rapids, Mich.; one sister, Mrs. Dagmar Marine, Cadillac, Mich.; and many other relatives.
Pastor Kenneth Fairbrother officiated at the services and burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.
