Gilbert married Martha Ann Curry on Thursday Jan 9, 1845 in Brazos County, Texas by the JP John Woods.

After the death of his first wife, Gilbert married Olivia Jane Lewis 22 Jul 1866. Their union produced four children: Mary A 'Mollie/Mamie' Love (1868-1963), Andrew C Love (1870-1939), Dewitt Wilson Love (1875-1948) and Harvey Olivia Love (1884-1885).
Although Olivia J Love's name and birth date are engraved on a marker, she went on to marry Newton C Duncan and shares a tombstone with him as Olivia J Duncan.
