Joseph A., son of George & Nancy Gish, was born in Franklin Co., IN, Jan 10, 1849, departed this life Mar 4, 1917, at his home near Foster, MO, of pneumonia fever. He was 67 years, 3 months and 3 days of age. He is survived by one brother and sister, Mrs. Amanda Cobb, of Darlington, who was at the home and helped care for him in his last sickness, and Killous Gish of Foster. After the death of the parents, the two brothers lived together. They moved to Foster in 1907. Uncle Joe, as we all called him, lived among us always ready to lend a helping hand to his fellowmen. Never tired of doing good wherever he could. A good neighbor, he was the same in sunshine or storm. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by all.
The body arrived at Darlington, Tuesday noon, accompanied by Mrs. Amanda Cobb and son, John, and Killous Gish, and was taken to the Cobb home and kept until Wednesday at 1 o'clock when the funeral was conducted by Rev. A.L. Groom at the Baptist Church. The body was interred at the Longbranch Cemetery.
A host of relatives and friends extend sympathy to the brother and sister in their sorrow and loss.
