Seriously ill since last Monday, A.E. Shumaker, rte 3, well known farmer and insurance adjuster, died at City hospital at 6:30 this morning. He was 84 years old and had been ill with a complication of ailments for the last six months.
Mr. Shumaker was a native of Crawford County, having been born here July 18, 1862, the son of Joel and Elmira Weatherly Shumaker. He was educated in the Whetstone school and Ohio Northern at Ada and had served as land appraiser, census enumerator and school board member in Whetstone Twp.
He was married November 3, 1886 to Ella Smith, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are the following children: Guy of Crestline, Warren of Martel and Victor Shumaker of Bucyrus; Mrs. Mayme Bronkar, Mrs. Anna Songer and Mrs. Velma Cooper of Bucyrus. Other survivors are two brothers, David Shumaker of Tiro and Charles Shumaker of North Robinson. A daughter, Agnes, died in infancy.
Mr. Shumaker was a member of the U.B. Church of North Robinson, and for some time was active in Pope Grange in Galion.
Funeral services are to be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Wise Funeral Home and burial will be in the Campbell Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday afternoon and evening."
