Mrs. Beattie was born in Woodbine, York County, to her loving parents, the late Benson Samuel and Mary Etta (Johnson) Harris.
She was a longtime and very active member of Small Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church in York. She was a member of the Senior Usher Board, Stewardess Board 1, and the Missionary Board. Mrs. Ann was an advocate for education; she attended Penn State/ York Campus and Millersville University.
She was a board member of Lebanon Cemetery, giving many years of dedication to the traditions of this cemetery, historically being the only black owned cemetery.
She was a leader in the community by working with the Neighborhood Food Bank. She was also a member of the Deborah Chap. 26 OES Prince Hall Affiliate of the Eastern Star, Household of Ruth, Esther Chapter; life member of NAACP; member of Crispus Attucks, Whisk Club and Fisherman Club.
Mrs. Ann is survived by three daughters, Gloria A. Beattie, Connie L. Beattie and Barbara J. Beattie, all of York; five sons, Leonard V. Beattie, Jr., Benson E. Beattie, Gary L. Beattie, Thomas R. Beattie, all of York, and Bernard K. Beattie of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Lucy Jones of York, and Clara Ringgold of Aberdeen, Md.; one brother, James Harris and his wife, Mary of York; two sister-in-laws, Geraldine Harris of Airville, and Charlsie Beattie of Coatesville; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins; and a host of friends. She was predeceased by four sisters, Helen Hall, Edith Green, Marion Brooks and Sarah Barton; and a brother, Roy Harris, Sr.
The burial will be at Lebanon Cemetery.
