Karl Martens (aka Charles Martin) arrived in Newburgh from Prussia around 1850. Karl (Charles) was a farmer and a founding member of the Zion Evangelical Church, now Zion United Church of Christ.

Mr. Chas. Martin, Sr. of Sharon District, who has been an invalid for many years, died on last Friday morning. He was a most esteemable gentleman and leaves many friends and relatives to mourn his loss. His remains were interred at Rose Hill cemetery on Saturday.
