The funeral for Edna Sperry, a long-time Superior resident, is pending at press time at the Megrue-Price Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sperry died Tuesday in the Blue Valley Nursing Home, Hebron. She was hospitalized last week in the Thayer County Memorial Hospital, Hebron, but was dismissed Monday.

Survivors include her seven children, Mrs. Erling Lambert
(Lovey), Mrs. Jens Johnson(Edna) and Irma Grummert of Superior, Mrs. Alvin Bargen(Wava) of Hardy, Theora Bargen of Hebron; Rex Sperry of Lincoln and Ronald Sperry, Billings; Mont., 22 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thaddeus Sperry Sr. in 1953, two sons, one daughter, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Edna Myrtle Sperry, daughter of Albert and Katherine (Clifton) Thurber was born May 6, 1895, in Edgerton, Missouri, and passed away March 31, 1987, at the Blue Valley Lutheran Home in Hebron, Nebraska, at the age of 91 years, 10 months and 25 days.

When she was 4 years old she moved with her family from Missouri to Nebraska, making that long trip in a covered wagon.

She attended Nelson rural schools.

On June 3, 1913, in Kansas City, Missouri, she was married to Thaddeus Sperry. This union was blessed with 10 children.

Edna has lived in the Superior community since 1928 and was a member of the Nazarene Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Thaddeus on December 26, 1953; 2 sons, Thaddeus, Jr., April 17, 1972, and Ray Clair, August 28, 1982; a daughter, Eleanor Eloise in 1927; a step-son, Lloyd; one sister Fern Rugha; four brothers, Roy, Glen, Tom and Orville Thurber; three grandchildren, Randy Sperry, January 7, 1955, Larry Joe Bargen, March 3, 1965, and Danny Sperry, June 13, 1977; and one great grandson, Mason Bargen, 1978.

She is survived by 5 daughters, Lovery and her husband Erline Lambert, Edna and her husband Jens Johnson, and Mrs. Irma Grummert all of Superior, Wava and her husband Alvin Bargen of Hardy, Nebr., and Mrs. Theora Bargen of Hebron, Nebr.; two sons, Rex Sperry and his wife Twila of Lincoln and Ron Sperry and his wife Lois of Billings, Montana; a step-son, Floyd Sperry of Twin Falls, Idaho; 24 grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed, yet fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 4, 1987, from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, Nebraska, with Pastor Shelby Barnhart officiating. Music was provided by soloist Carol Shambaugh singing "Beyond The Sunset" and "In The Garden" with Carlita Price as organist and accompanist. Casketbearers were Arnold Lambert, Lowell Bargen, Rick Sperry, Steven Grummert, Robbie DeMaude and James Sperry. Honorary pallbearers were Terry Bargen, Thad Sperry III, Michael Sperry, Brian Sperry, Lynn Bargen, Kevin Bargen, Lonnie Bargen and Curtis Bargen. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery near Superior, Nebraska. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior was in charge of the arrangements.
