Charles English, Once Police Commissioner and an Old Resident
Charles English, a well known resident of West Washington died at his residence, 3120 N Street Northwest Monday evening and his remains will be interred at Oak Hill Cemetery at 11 o'clock this morning. Services will be conducted in the Chapel at the cemetery by Rev. Frank H. Havenner, Pastor of the Dumbarton Avenue Methodist Church. Mr. English was seventy-five years of age and a life long resident of the District.
At one time he was Collector of the Port of Georgetown, held the office of Police Commissioner and served several terms in the old Common Council of the town in addition to holding other offices. He was in the hardware business, succeeding his father, who kept a store on M Street near High Street.
