John Henry Adams, 75, of Bridgeport, died February 19, 2001, in Dallas. He was born September 7, 1925 in Bridgeport.
Rev. Johnny Irish Officiated at funeral services at First United Methodist Church of Bridgeport and interment at East Bridgeport Cemetery on February 21.
Pallbearers were Joey Smith, Billy Fred Walker, Tommy Hudson, Calvin Coursey, Jamey Smith and David Garrison. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. W.E. Huddleston, Ed Cowling, Loyd Wood and Dr. L.V. Selz.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nelda Adams; three daughters, Karen Sharp and husband Roger of Bryson, Beverley Potts and Husband of Larry of Little Rock, Nancy McCully and husband Gary of Lorena; sisters Laverne Brown and Martha Starnes of Hempstead; eight grandchildren; Lori and Husband Matt, Kevin, Steven and wife Barbara, Mark and wife Martha, Adam, Seth, Erin, and Shawn; four great grandchildren; Matthew, Deborah, John and Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews.
John retired from the U.S. Postal Service with over 30 years of service. He married Nelda Manning on April 3, 1943, in Bridgeport. He served in the military service during World War II in Rhineland, Ardennes, and central Europe, earning several awards including American Theatre Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon, Soldier's Medal, Victory Ribbon, Purple Heart, three bronze campaign stars, and Driver's Award. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Bridgeport, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, D.A.V., and Wise County Historical Society. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Adams, and two sisters, Evilla Kaker and Maudina Green.
