Last Rites Held for Mrs. Bender
Funeral services were held at the Holy Ghost Church in Gustine for Mrs. Clara Bender of that city who died at the age of 87. Burial was in the Los Banos Cemetery.
Mrs. Bender was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Pfitzer, early day settlers on the West Side. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. William Bunker of Gustine; a brother, William Pfitzer, also of Gustine; and several nephews and nieces.
NOTE: She lived in Berkeley, CA from before 1910; was listed living there in 1920 with her widowed sister, Julia McCabe. So most likely she married Stephen Bender in Berkeley, Alameda Co, CA. From Stephen's probated will, an antenuptual agreement was signed in late May 1925. So they most likely married soon afterward.
