Charles M Kreis, 93, of 742 Elm Street, a pedestrian, who was struck by an automobile at the intersection of Park Avenue and Walnut Street at 8:05 pm, Saturday night, died two hours later from injuries in County memorial Hospital. Kreis, the city's first traffic fatality this year died of internal injuries and a broken right leg. He was the father of Paul S Kreis, 1012 Orchard Street, desk clerk at the police station. Police said the elderly man was struck by a car driven by Edward J Broderick, 53, of Marion Drive. A witness told police that Kreis started to walk south from Park Avenue, across Walnut Street against a traffic light at that intersection. A witness to the accident police said, was sitting in his car near the Dawson Funeral Home awaiting the traffic light to change when he saw the pedestrian starting to cross the intersection against the light. He blew his horn, he said, to warn the pedestrian, but the man kept going across the intersection. Broderick said he did not see Kreis in time to avoid the accident. The accident is still under investigation by police. Mr Kreis, the son of Jacob and Caroline Hahn Kreis, was born 28 December, 1880 in Muskingum County. He was the last of a family of eight children.
