Mr. Cockrell died Sunday, April 15, 2001 at his residence. Born in Red Jacket, W. Va., he was a son of the late Alfred Lee and Clyda Root Cockrell. He retired as postmaster in Ketchikan, Alaska, was a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the Barnwell Church of Christ and a former resident of Charleston.
Surviving are his wife, Tenna Fox Cockrell, Barnwell; daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Claude Bearden, Barnwell; sister, Myrtle Wright, Pikeville, Tenn.; brothers, Paul Cockrell, Ripley, Ohio, Ed Cockrell, Blanchard, Ohio, Robert Cockrell, Anchorage, Alaska; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.
