Hillpoint/LaValle - Roger F. Ott, age 74, of Hillpoint, formerly of LaValle, died on Sunday, December 25, 1994 at the Reedsburg Area Medical Center. He was born on February 6, 1920 in Reedsburg, the son of William and Clara (Mittlesteadt) Ott. Roger was a 1938 graduate of Central High School in Madison. On February 14, 1942, he was united in marriage to the former Roberta M. Uphoff. She preceded him in death on April 13,1994. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army. In 1946 he started a garage and TV business in Hillpoint. In 1953 he began 31 years of service with the United States Postal Service, serving as Postmaster at Hillpoint until his retirement in 1984. Together he and his wife operated The Catcher's Mitt in Loganville for many years. Roger was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Hillpoint; the National Association of Postmasters; the National League of Postmasters, a lifetime member of the Hillpoint Rod and Gun Club and one of the original founders and members of the Hillpoint Fire Department. He was an avid fisherman and a well known fishing guide at Lake Redstone. Survivors include two sons, Dennis (Tammy) Ott and Leonard (Sue) Ott both of Hillpoint; four grandchildren, Sonja Collins, Zachary, Hannah and Sarah Ott; four step-grandchildren, Brandon, Heath, Chantell and Justin Pickel; a step great grandson, Jason; his sister, LaVonne (Eugene) Pine of Mukwonago; a very close friend, Ray Friedland of Madison and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am. on Wednesday, December 28, 1994 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hillpoint, with Reverend Lance Hoff officiating. Internment with military rites will be in St. John's Cemetery, Tuckertown. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm unil 8:00 pm on Tuesday, December 27, 1994 at the Hammer-Hoof Funeral Home in Reedsburg.
