Jens Christian "Chris" Andersen was born in Denmark on July 14, 1880 to Anna & Martin Andersen. According to information learned on the Find A Grave website; Chris had 5 full blooded siblings; Mary, Helen, Karl (passed away as an infant), Anton and Carl. He also had 5 half-siblings; Olivia, Marvin, Sylvia, Louise and Hannes.
In 1929, Chris bought the 65' ferry WISCONSIN; which he immediately put in the coastal trade business in Door & Brown County. Capt. Andersen was assisted in his business by his twin sons; Ray & Roy. For over 20 years the Andersen's became one of Washington Island's most important life lines; delivering Island fish, potatoes, and other harvested crops to southern towns; while bringing back needed supplies to Island merchants and the citizens of Washington Island.
Chris married Emily A. Peterson in 1905. Sadly, she passed away in 1922 at the young age of 34. Chris would live to the age of 76; passing away on March 20, 1957 on Washington Island.

The Island was saddened at the news of Chris Anderson suddenly passing away last Wednesday evening. Chris had hardly a sick day in his whole life and had been busy cutting wood for Al Shellswick on the Point. When Lawrence Anderson went out to the boat last Monday morning he found Chris in bed sick, and Mr. Anderson at once notified Ray and Roy. They took Chris up to Ray's home where he died.
