Above all else, he loved his eternal companion, Helen Louise Maynard Wardle, who only recently passed away on May 9, 2009. They were married on May 10, 1947; later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on May 28, 1956 and proudly raised five sons.
Harold was born in South Jordan on January 18, 1919, the third of nine children, to Charles Lyman Wardle and Orel Ann Holt Wardle.
He was raised on the family farm in South Jordan, and he loved working with animals. He worked at Kennecott before he joined the Army in 1942.
During World War II, he served in the European theater as the head cook for the 876th Air Borne Engineering Battalion. After the war he worked as a farmer and operated the best producing farm in the county (according to Salt Lake County records!). He was a manager at Duracraft Rubber Co., and in 1973 he joined his sons in their construction business.
In 1983, Harold and Louise served a mission in Tallahassee, Florida and set a wonderful example of service. Harold loved the outdoors and vacationing in the RV. His tenderness became more evident with the arrival of each grandchild. He was a man of integrity and taught a good work ethic. He was always a gentleman with a quick-wit and great charm.
He is survived by his sons: Robert (Darla), Riverton; Dee, Ohio; Paul (Nada), Riverton; LaMont (Margaret), Sandy; Hal (Valerie), Bluffdale; 26 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brothers: LaCoy (Rayola- deceased), South Jordan; Ned (Janet), Riverton. Preceded in death by his loving companion, Louise; parents; siblings: Kenneth, Wendell, Margie (Leon) Roper, Rose (Floyd) Burningham, Paul - infant, Jean (Frank) Engstrom; grandchild: Troy Dee Wardle; great-grandchildren: Zion Wardle, Jackson Wardle.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2009 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Broomhead Funeral Home, 12590 South 2200 West, Riverton.
