Hazel Marie Browning-Hadley, 89, of Eagle Estates, Independence, Kansas passed away Saturday, November 13, 2004 at Mercy Hospital, Independence, Kansas.

Hazel was born on November 10, 1915 in Medford, Oklahoma the daughter of Otha Willis and Carrie Mills-Akers. She was raised in Arkansas City, Kansas where she attended school.

She married Raymond J. Browning on July 14, 1940 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and they came to Independence in 1941. Mr. Browning preceded her in death on February 19, 1983.

She worked as a waitress for numerous years in Independence and she also worked at Continental Can for six years and Emerson Electric for three years retiring at the age of 63.

She married Ira L. Hadley on April 18, 1987 at the Bolton Friends Church, Bolton, Kansas. Mr. Hadley preceded her in death on March 16, 2000. She was an active member of the Frontline Baptist Church.

Hazel is survived by three sons, Ray Browning, Jr. of North Little Rock, Arkansas, Richard Browning and Robert Browning both of Independence, Kansas; two daughters, Ramona Browning of Independence, Kansas and Rebecca Jo Torres of Houston, Texas; twenty two grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. She is also survived by four brothers, Bob, Gene, Billy and Ricky Akers.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and two brothers.

Visitation hours for Hazel will be Sunday, November 14, 2004 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel.

Funeral services for Hazel M. Browning-Hadley will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 15, 2004 at the Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel with Reverend Grady Miller of the Bolton Friends Church officiating.

Burial will follow at the Harrisonville Cemetery, rural Independence, Kansas.

The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Frontline Baptist Church, 3627 W. Main, Independence, Kansas. Memorials may be left with the funeral home.
