DR. JAMES H. LETCHER, 89, DIES AT DANVILLE
Danville, Ky., Sept. 15. (AP)-- Dr. James H. Letcher, 89, Danville city clerk until his retirement in 1946, died here Tuesday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Ben Bright.
He was a former city councilman and tax collector and at one time a dentist.
He is survived by two other daughters, Mrs. Wright Waller, Morganfield, and Mrs. Anna K. Nuchols, Atlanta; a son, James Hughes Letcher, Washington, D., C, and his widow.

RETIRED DENTIST DIES AT HOME IN DANVILLE
DANVILLE Ky Sept 14 (Special)— Dr James H Letcher about 89 retired dentist died at 10:45 m today at the home of his daughter Mrs. Ben Bright here A former city councilman and city tax collector he was city clerk when illness forced him to retire in 1946.
A son of Dr Benjamin and Jane Ingram Letcher, he was a native of Henderson and a graduate of the Cincinnati Dental School. He came to Danville as a young man to practice.
Dr. Letcher was an elder in the Second Presbyterian church and was a member of the Elks lodge.
Survivors include his wife Mrs. Eliza Kinnaird Letcher three daughter Mrs. Bright, Mrs. Wright Waller, Morganfield and Mr. Anna K. Nuchol, Atlanta, one son James Hughes Letcher II, Washington and eight grandchildren .
The body was taken to Stith's funeral home pending completion of arrangements for the funeral. Mayor Henry Nichols said city offices will be closed during the funeral and the flag on the city hall will be flown at half-staff until after the services.

Former City Employee Died At Daughter's After Long Illness
Funeral services have been set for 2:30' o'clock Thursday afternoon at Second Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Barney Ellis Maclean, pastor, officiating, for Dr. James Hughes Letcher,89, who died at 10:45 o'clock Tuesday morning at the home of a daughter, Mts. Robert Bright, on Lexington road.
Last employed as Danville city clerk, Dr. Letcher had retired from that post about 30 months ago because of ill health. He had been confined to his home practically ever since.
Born July 8, 1859, in Henderson he was the son of Dr. Benjamin and Jane Ingram Letcher. Graduated from Cincinnati Dental School, Dr. Letcher came to Danvilie about 1885, to practice dentistry. He was an elder in Second Presbyterian Church and member of the Elks.
Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Eliza Kinnaird Letcher, whom the dentist married after coming to Danville to live; two more daughters, Mrs. Wright Waller, Morganfield, and Mrs. Anna K. Nuckols, Atlanta, Ga.; a son, James Hughes Letcher, Jr., Washington, D. C; nine grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.
A former City Councilman for several years, Dr. Letcher later became city tax collector and still later city clerk of Danville.
Mayor Nichols ordered the flag at City Hall to fly at half-mast from the hour of Dr. Letcher's death until after the funeral tomorrow.
All city offices will be closed during the funeral hour as a mark of respect and tribute to Dr. Letcher's work for the city of Danville.
Intement will be in Bellevue cemetery.
The Session of Second Presbyterian Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Active pallbearers will be R. H. Bright Sr., R. H. Bright Jr., Wright Waller Sr., Wright Waller Jr., Reid Letcher and Mayor Henry L. Nichols. The family requests that no flowers be sent. The body will be at Stith funeral home until time to go the church.
