Cora Elizabeth Hawkins, 89, of Memphis, MO, and former resident of Bloomfield, IA, passed away March 16, 2007, at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, MO.

The daughter of Russell James and Ruby Agnes (Pottorff) Ritz, she was born on August 15, 1917 in rural Davis County, IA.

She attended Eldon High School in Eldon, IA.

She was united in marriage to Larval Hawkins in 1935 and to this union two children were born, James and Judy.

Survivors include her daughter, Judy Hawkins and husband, Jerry of Bloomfield, IA; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Hawkins of Fairfield, IA; two granddaughters, Kathy Norris and husband, Craig of Davenport, IA, and Justi Latimer of Albia, IA; three grandsons, Kevin Hawkins of Fon de Lac, WI, Keith Hawkins of Tooela, UT, and Joel Latimer of Bloomfield, IA; one step-grandson, Johnny Hawkins of Tipton, IA; one great-granddaughter, Stephanie Woods of Fairfield, IA; two great-grandsons, Cody Hawkins of Fon de Lac, WI, and Colten Latimer of Bloomfield, IA; five nieces; one nephew; one sister, Barbara Hoskin and husband, Arthur Dale of Savannah, IA and a long- time special friend, Alva Garrett of Memphis, MO, and his children, Larry, Bernice, Patricia, Mary Ann and Roger (deceased).

Cora Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents; one son, James Hawkins; an infant brother, Richard Ritz; and two sisters, Rachel Waterman and Patricia McClure.

Cora Elizabeth worked as a cashier for the Benner Tea Company and later Country Boy Grocery in Bloomfield, IA, for approximately 25 years. She also enjoyed crocheting and quilting and later she would attend the Memphis Senior Citizens where she enjoyed playing cards.

Graveside services were held on March 19, 2007 at the Bloomfield IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield, IA, with DeWayne Lawson, longtime friend and pastor of the Seymour Christian Church officiating. Memorials have been established for the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO. Burial was in the Bloomfield IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield, IA. Arrangements were under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster and Downing, MO.
