She was the daughter of Franklin Fiske Heard (1825-1889) and Harriet Hildreth Heard. On September 27, 1882 as Harriet Hildreth Heard, she married Lanier Dunn in Lowell, Massachusetts. She was a niece of General Benjamin F. Butler.

Harriet Hildreth Heard Dunn was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, the daughter of Franklin Fiske Heard and Harriet Hildreth Heard. She was a member of the Woman’s Club, the Colonial Dames and St. Paul’s Church. After the death of her husband, Lanier Dunn, in 1915 she moved to Richmond. She died at age 80 on Wednesday, December 2, 1936 at her home at 922 West Franklin Street after an illness of a few hours. Survivors included two daughters: Mrs. A. Sidney Buford and Mrs. George Cole Scott, both of Richmond; one son, Colonel William McKee Dunn of the District of Columbia and Hot Springs and several grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the West Franklin residence with Rev. Beverley D. Tucker, D.D., pastor of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church officiating. Interment was at the District of Columbia.

Although cemetery records indicate she is buried in Lot 417, it has been verified by the Oak Hill Cemetery office that she and her family are interred in Lot 415.
