The following is taken from an Anderson Family history written by Nola Anderson Haynes. The complete story can be found at the Linn County Historical Society in Brookfield, Missouri.

John Morton Anderson was the son of Leonard Wade Anderson and Mary Watkins Morton. In 1845 he came west as far as St. Joseph, Missouri looking for a place to live. Returning to Virginia he married Mary Ellen Hubbard and they returned to Missouri eventually settling on 80 acres of land 1 1/2 miles west of Wyandotte. There they raised their children. Robert, Hezikiah, Mary, Emma, and Edward lived on farms near Bucklin and Marceline. John ran a general store near Westville and one at Long's Mill. Two children, a girl, Sarah, and a son, William died as children and were buried on a small plot near the home. William is shown as Charles in the Anderson Family history by Nola Anderson.

ANDERSON, John

Uncle John Anderson one of the old landmarks of north Missouri, and one of the very first settlers in Linn county died at his home four miles northwest of Bucklin yesterday morning. He was nearly eighty one years old, and has been a well known character since before the civil war. He leaves a wife and six children, two girls and four boys, all of whom are well known and honored citizens of Linn county. The funeral will be preached today at 2 p.m. at the Wyandotte chapel. The Herald extends the sympathy of a multitude of friends to the bereaved family.
