ALTONA - Ralph E. Ellis, 70, 403 E. Main St., Altona, died at 1:10 a.m. Monday (Oct. 26, 2009) at home.
He was born Jan. 9, 1939, in Canton, the son of Arnold and Helen Powell Ellis.
He married Carol McGraw Drury on July 31, 1983, in Rock Island. She survives of Altona.
Also surviving are sons, Robert (Lisa) McClay, Sarasota, Fla., Brian (Pauline) McClay, Oneida, Terry (Teresa) McClay, Galesburg, and Tim (Annette) McClay, East Galesburg; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Pat Bodenhamer, Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Robin; and stepson, Mark Drury.
He was reared and educated in Abingdon. He attended Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, Ore.
He served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1961; then the United States Army from Jan. 15, 1962, to Jan. 15, 1964, and then the Army Reserves until Sept. 9, 1968.
He was an over-the-road trucker for Atlas Van Lines and Mayflower in Tucson, Ariz.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at New Life Fellowship in Wataga, the Rev. Roger Swanson officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors or Disabled Veterans. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory, Knoxville, is in charge of arrangements.
