He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a navigator on a B-24 Bomber. His plane was shot down and he spent seven months in various German prison camps.
In 1950 he graduated from Rice Institute, now University, in Houston, Texas, with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He retired in 1982 after 32 years of service with DuPont in Waynesboro, VA. In addition to his work as a supervisor, he was active in helping employees get rehabilitation for alcohol and other drug problems when needed. He faithfully advocated for Alcohol abstinence.
He was active in getting DuPont Credit Union started in Waynesboro and worked as a volunteer with them for many years.
Glen loved country music and spent many happy hours calling square dances in the area as well as volunteering his services as a caller at youth groups, mental hospitals and the rehabilitation center.
He enjoyed using his mechanical skills and had a 1949 and a 1966 Chevrolet that he bought new and kept in top condition. One son who loves antiques has them both.
After retiring he and his wife spent many enjoyable years traveling in the United States visiting with their children, relatives and friends and also toured several foreign countries.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Metta Hetrick; his sister, Alice Kaufman and his brother, Lyman Hetrick Jr.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Marjorie of Summit Square and their five children; daughter, Joy Kraft of Waynesboro; sons, Dale Hetrick of Riverdale, MD, Ross Hetrick of Gettysburg, PA, Boyd Hetrick of Los Angeles, CA and Mark Hetrick of Greensboro, NC; four grandchildren, Philip Kraft and his wife, Meghann, Jill Kraft, Sarah Hetrick and Holly Hetrick and two great-grandchildren, Morgan Hall and Caitlynn Kraft.
Special thanks are sent to the nurses at Assisted Living, the staff at Summit Square and the doctors and nurses at Augusta Health for their very loving care.
The family will have a private memorial service with interment in Augusta Memorial Park.
