Frederick G. Novy, Sc. D., M.D., an organic chemist, was a noted pioneering microbiologist, who together with Louis Pasteur, invented the field of bacteriology.

Professor of bacteriology, director of the Hygienic Laboratory, and Dean of the University of Michigan Medical School, 1933-1935. (1864-1957)

In 1901, Dr. Novy was appointed a member of the United States commission to investigate the bubonic plague in the Orient.
