Aaron Guild Chapter, DAR honors REAL DAUGHTER

It took nearly three years to bring this to a reality. During that time, Mrs. Ellen McGrath, the Real Daughter Chairman of Aaron Guild Chapter, received commendations from both the Massachusetts State Society and the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution for her part in the Massachusetts Real Daughters Project. A Real Daughter is defined as the daughter of a Revolutionary War Soldier. During her research, Chairman McGrath discovered something that was unknown to her chapter members: that Aaron Guild Chapter had a Real Daughter ancestor, namely Martha May Guild Kimball. Marthafs grandfather, gAaron Guildh is the chapterfs namesake. Martha Kimballfs father was Jacob Guild, son of Aaron and his first wife, Anna Coney.

Jacob Guild enlisted in the Revolutionary War when he was 17 and completed seven years of service. He served in Col. Wellsfs Regiment at Castle William in Boston, as well as Col. Gilles Company at Stillwater, New York, where Burgoyne surrendered. Jacob joined Col. Daggettfs Regiment and General Sullivanes troops at a battle with British troops in Bristol, Rhode Island. Jacob substituted for Oliver Guild of Dedham and served in Capt. Haskellfs Company at Little Compton, Rhode Island . He also substituted for Benjamin Fuller of Dedham and served in Captain Newellfs Regiment in Providence demolishing British forts.

Aaron Guild Chapter held the Real Daughter dedication ceremony for Martha May Guild Kimball at the Old Parish Cemetery, Norwood on June 9, 2012. Martha was born on September 10, 1803, the youngest of four children of Jacob and Chloe May Guild. She grew up in the old Guild homestead across the street
