Following the Civil War, the plantation was bought by Frank Coxe, husband of Mary Carson Mills, a granddaughter of the original owners. Later it was owned by the couple's daughter, Maude Cox, who lived there 30 years. The home was sold in 1958, passing ownership for the first time from an original family member.
