L.A. Powell lived in Hood County until 1901. He married Miss Nellie Curl in Hood County and four children were born into this union - Howard, Ralph, Denton and Miss Pauline Powell. The couple moved to Taylor County in 1901 and then to Baylor County in 1905. His wife preceded him in death. In 1913, Mr. Powell married Miss Katie Eavenson. Into this union were born 10 children - Robert, Sid, Irene, Jeffie, Whit, Helen, Cletta, Marjorie, Charles, and Jack Wayman Powell. All of these are living with the exception of Jack Wayman Powell who died several years ago. Survivors are his wife and children; three brothers; four sisters.

Services for L.A. Powell were held in the Church of Christ in Red Springs. Masons had charge of services at the grave. Mr. Powell was converted and united with the Church of Christ while living in Taylor County in 1903. He was Baylor County's most substantial citizen and a consistent Christian. He had lived for 25 years or more on the Powell place, just north of Red Springs, and since 1915 in the house where he lived at the time of his death, a quarter mile north of Red Springs.
