Eugenia "Gene" Akin Martin, 82, of Pensacola, FL passed away Sunday, October 25, 2009.
Gene was a pastor's wife for many years, loving mother, grandmother and teacher. She retired from Brentwood Middle School. She was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class at Heights Baptist Church. Gene loved the Lord, family, beaches, shells and friendships. She attended college at Agnes Scott in Atlanta, GA and graduated from Birmingham Southern where she was in AOII sorority. Gene was a dear friend to many and an inspiration to everyone who watched her struggles and recoveries. She also had an ever-thankful spirit for those around her.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Eugenia and Dr. John Akin of Birmingham, AL; and also a son, John.
Survivors include her loving husband, daughter, grandson, brother, as well as a sister.
Visitation will be held 11am to 12:15pm Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at Heights Baptist Church with a Funeral Service to begin at 12:15pm. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Gleaners Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heights Baptist Church, 600 Pickens Ave., Pensacola, FL 32503.
