Martha came with her family to Ohio in 1806, at the age of 15, settling first in Fairfield County for a year, then in Spring of 1807 came to what was to become Genoa township, Delaware County. In 1813 she married Alexander Smith, and they settled on a farm in the middle of the township, where she and Alex raised seven children. They were members of the Presbyterian church, in which her husband was an elder for thirty years.
