Funeral service for Thomas Wendall Anderson, last of Mena's Confederate veterans,who died early Sunday morning at his home at 506 Fourth street, was held Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist church. The service, which was at 3:30 o'clock, was in charge of the Rev. L.D.Bowling.

Burial took place at Pinecrest Memorial Park in the family plot beside the wife of the deceased who preceded her husband in death 10 1/2 years. Arrangements were in charge of the Beasley Funeral Home. The pallbearers were, King J. Collier, Elmer Dover, Loyce Treadway, Claude Newsome,Vernon Rodgers and Ellis Newman.

Deceased was born at Oxford, Miss., March 18, 1848. At the age of 15 years he enlisted in the Army of the Confederacy and served in Forrest's Cavalry until the end of the conflict. He came to Arkansas when 21 years of age and located in Franklin county. A year later he was married to Miss Narcisus Campbell. In 1893, with his family he moved to Polk county and settled on a farm near Hatfield where he lived until 1920 when he moved to Mena.

For several years he had been in failing health and had been confined to his home. His passing leaves but one Confederate veteran in Polk county, W. P. Crawford, of Opal.

The deceased had been a member of the Baptist church since he was 16 years of age. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Mary Whitehead, Lawton, Okla.; Mrs. Molinda Nelson, Mrs. Bertha Beavers and Mrs. Dora Richardson, Mena; six sons, Bedford Anderson, Shawnee, Okla.; Will Anderson, Electra,Texas; Houston Anderson, Burneyville, Okla.' Wallace B. Anderson, Old Potter; Sid and Charlie Anderson, Mena. Also 43 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
