Doris M. Murphy, 90, formerly of 208 S. Highland, Conway Springs, died Saturday, October 3, 2009 at Sumner Regional Medical Center, Wellington, Kansas.

She was born August 14, 1919 in rural Kingman County, south of Norwich, Kansas the daughter of William Wallace Gilges and Daisy Mae Finney Gilges the youngest of seven children. Doris moved with her family at the age of 5 years to Decatur, Arkansas by covered wagon. When she was in the 6th grade, they returned to Kansas where Doris attended school in El Dorado. The family moved to Milton, Kansas where she would finish her secondary education. Doris received her high school diploma from Milton High School in May of 1938.

Doris was united in marriage to Harold Clay Murphy on June 17, 1938 in Independence, Kansas. To this union were born two sons: William Ray Murphy born August 23, 1942 and Ronald Ken Murphy born February 28, 1946.

Doris began working at the Wichita Petroleum Club in Wichita, Kansas on August 14, 1968. She worked 14 ½ years as a bookkeeper before retiring in January of 1982.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband H. C. Murphy; one son R. K. Murphy; three brothers: Clarence, Waldo and Joe Gilges; three sisters: Connie Covey, Thelma Botkin, and Francis Hoag.

Doris is survived by one son Bill Murphy and his wife Anna of Conway Springs, Kansas; granddaughter Robin Weiss and her husband Rick of Wellington, Kansas; grandson Clay Murphy and his wife Shelly, granddaughter Kelli Goheen and her husband Mark all of Conway Springs, Kansas; grandson Shawn Murphy and his wife Adrienne of Overland Park, Kansas; 12 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2009 from the United Methodist Church, Conway Springs, with Pastor Lorna Gotchall Tovrea, officiating. Interment will be in Conway Springs Cemetery, Conway Springs, Kansas. Ebersole Mortuary, Conway Springs is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established to the United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund.
