East Bridgewater, Aug 15, One of this town's well known and respected residents, Clarence B. "Ed" Gerstley, died at his home Monday, following a long period of declining health, at the age of 75 years. Mr. Gerstley was born in Bellingham, a son of Harry and Phoebe (Simmons) Gerstley. He had made this town his home for the past 17 years, coming here from Whitman. His early life was passed in South Weymouth. For 33 years Mr. Gerstley was foreman at the Commonwealth Shoe & Leather Co. in Whitman. He was an ardent lover of sports and keenly interested in baseball and football, having managed teams during his younger days. This was his only diversion outside of his home circle. He was a member of the Bostonian Shoe Club, affillated with the Commonwealth Co., and for 10 years had sole charge of welfare work for that club. Surviving him besides his widow, Mrs. Elva W. (Hatch) Gerstley are one daughter, Mrs. Marion Wright of Whitman; two sons, Theodore R. Gerstley of Brockton, and Francis A. of East Bridgewater; also several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. from the funeral chapel, 532 Washington Street, Whitman. Interment will be in Central Cemetery, East Bridgewater.
