Joseph Michael Kyc, 90, of South Windsor, beloved husband for 63 years of Mary Therese (Ladd) Kyc, passed away peacefully on Thursday (October 22, 2009) surrounded by his family at his home.


Born in Hartford on September 29, 1919, son of the late Michael J. and Catherine (Abramek) Kyc, he was raised in Hartford and had lived in South Windsor since 1964.


A veteran of World War II, Joseph served in the U.S. Army and was discharged as a Technical Sergeant in 1947. When he returned home, Joseph started his career in the construction business and retired after 40 years of service as a foreman with Violette, Silvester & Sons, Inc. in East Hartford.


Proud of his military service, Joseph was a member of Brown, Landers & Ratti, American Legion Post #0077 in East Hartford and V.F. W. Post #10251 in South Windsor. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in South Windsor where he also served as a sexton and an usher. Most of all, Joseph will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather.


Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Michael Joseph Kyc and Linda of Tolland; a daughter, Joyce Carol Cormier and her husband Stephen of South Windsor; six grandchildren, David M. DeLusso and his wife Michelle, Valarie A. Bogoslofski and her husband Matthew, Rebekah A. Robbins and her husband Dale, Abraham R. Kyc and his wife Jessica, Jeremy Piela, and Jonathan Piela; ten great grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter. He was predeceased by two brothers, John and Chester Kyc; and a sister, Veronica T. Kyc.


A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 673 Ellington Road, (Route 30), South Windsor.
Burial with Full Military Honors accorded will follow in Center Cemetery, South Windsor.
His family will receive friends TODAY (October 23, 2009) from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor.
