Dr. Charles E. Jenkins was born in Marshall County, Ill., on March 6, 1870, and is one of the eight children; seven sons and one daughter, of Jacob W. and Susie (McLaughlin) Jenkins, the former a native of Pennsylvania and the latter of Illinois. The paternal grandfather was Moses Jenkins, who was born and reared in Ireland. Mr. Jenkins enlisted in Company B, Fifty-first Iowa Volunteer Infantry, and was made color sergeant of his regiment. He was discharged from the army in 1890. In June, 1903, Dr. Jenkins was united in marriage with Miss Hattie M. Long, of Iowa.
