Daniel was the son of Joseph and Mary Dozier Hughart born about 1836. They lived at Sinking Creek in Hughart WV Greenbire County

When the war started
Daniel as well as his brothers Jordan and Alexander, joined the Virginia Militia Daniel transferred into the Infantry 20 September 1862.
In February 1863 Daniel became quite ill and was taken to a military hospital at Red Sulphur Springs.His brother Jordan visited him there and wrote his father telling him of Daniel's illness in a letter which has been preserved until this day; it was kept by Jordan's son George. Records in the National Archives show that Daniel died on 25 February 1863, the night after Jordan wrote this letter to his father. Joseph completed the forms for the Confederate government in order to secure Daniel's personal effects, and declared that Daniel was his son and died single without issue.
