Gerald A. Ray, 87, formerly of Decatur, a retired meat cutter, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.

Ray, who was born in Adams County , retired from Didier Meats in 1982. Before working for Didier, he had been a manager in the Kroger and Supervalu meat departments. He was a World War II Army veteran. He belonged to St. Mark's United Methodist Church. He was an outdoorsman who trained English pointers and registered Tennessee Walking horses.

Surviving is his sister, Mary Erp of rural Decatur. His wife, Mildred, died in 1993. Her brothers, Doyle C., Oscar T. and Junior F., also preceded him in death.

Services are 1 p.m. Monday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, where calling is from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery , where Adams Post 43 American Legion will perform military rites. Memorials are to the church. Information provided by Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur.
