C.L. Byrd Jr. BURNSVILLE -
C.L. Byrd Jr., 73, of the Jacks Creek community, Route 1, died Tuesday at his residence. A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late C. Lester and Hallie Koone Byrd.
He retired in 1968 from Pennsylvania Railroad. He had been a realtor for the past 23 years. He was co-owner of Yancey Realty Co.
Surviving are two daughters, Sue Isom of Burnsville and Merri Dru Byrd of Greensboro; five sons, Ronnie Byrd of Washington, D.C., Larry Byrd of Asheville, and Thomas, Sam and Bobby Byrd of Burnsville; a sister, Julia Byrd Gardner of Newport News, Va.; and five grandchildren.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday in Jacks Creek Baptist Church. The Revs. Donald W. Sneller and Robert Melvin will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Holcombe Bros. Funeral Home where the body will remain until the service hour.
